Bill Henning and Thomas MacDonald in Athens, Greece

Before visiting Athens for the first time in 2016 I was told that the city was noisy and dirty and that most likely I wouldn’t enjoy it.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  I loved Athens.  Bill and I had boarded a clipper ship in Istanbul, Turkey for a 7-day cruise to Athens.  From the minute we landed in this classic city I was excited to visit as many of the iconic places of interest that defined this timeless place.

The morning we toured the Acropolis was a typical hot summer day.  Tourists were out in droves, but it didn’t deter me from enjoying every step as we ascended to the amazing ruins at the top which overlooked the entire city of Athens.

Athens, like Rome, London and Paris will always be a city to reckon with.  Their place on this planet is woven in the fabric of mankind’s development for all time.
