Why I Wrote This Book

I was asked to write my autobiography by Ethan Casey, a friend of more than 30 years. Because Ethan has become a very established author in his own right and is the publisher of Blue Ear Books, I respected his suggestion. I guess I’ve always wanted to be ‘published’ as I’ve kept personal journals since my mid-twenties. At some point I figured someone will read them even after I’ve passed on. But then I thought how wonderful it would be to write my story and have it compiled in a book that my family, friends, and others could enjoy. I’d like my book to be an inspiration to others who may feel the world isn’t being as welcoming to them as they had expected. Through reading my book they will see that around the next corner may exist the very thing that could change their life forever.

My Dream

Once the idea of writing an autobiography began to take hold of me, I started to realize what an opportunity I would have to share some of the valuable lessons and experiences that brought me to where I am today. I live with very few regrets and I’m happy that I won’t ever lament that I didn’t make more of the journals I had been keeping for over fifty years.

My Discoveries

As a baby boomer born in the early fifties, it didn’t take me long to discover that as a person of color my opportunities could be limited. Purposefully limited by others who didn’t want people of color to thrive and limited if I allowed myself to believe that change wasn’t possible. But I was blessed to have a mom who instilled in me the drive to do better, learn more and succeed no matter what.
